American biology graduates- volunteer opportunities in Canada! Georgian Bay Turtle Hospital at Scales Nature Park is looking for volunteers! Our nature center is home to the most complete live collection of Canadian herpetofauna in the country, for use in our educational programs and research efforts. We focus on the conservation of Canadian reptiles and amphibians and the habitats that sustain them. Local and international volunteers are heavily involved in our efforts. Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in a variety of projects and tasks related to: field research and conservation projects, animal care, public education (on-site and outreach), and facility development. Accommodations and meals are provided for volunteers. We can assist with arranging work permits, visas, etc. Contact us for more information! Reptile Camp now at Scales! Scales Nature Park is happy to announce that Hamilton-based Reptile Camp will be moving to our location this year! This popular day camp program has operated for over a decade, most recently at Little Ray's Reptile Zoo. When I heard that my friend Steve was planning to 'retire' (sure, Steve!) to the North Bay area and shut down Reptile Camp, we began some discussions about how to keep it alive. So many kids had such great experiences through the camp and we both wanted to see those opportunities continue. I was attempting to start a day camp program through Scales anyway, so the timing was good. Reptile Camp is accredited by the Ontario Camping Association and will offer week long sessions during July and August, for camper and Leaders in Training. Extended care will be available before and after camp times. Dates and times will be forthcoming soon. Costs will be in-line with similar programs. Steve has also decided to continue at his new northern Ontario location with the launch of Reptile Adventure Camp- an overnight camp making use of the wilderness potential of the area! This promises to be a great opportunity for anyone interested in an overnight camp experience. We look forward to sharing more information about these programs soon! www.ScalesNaturePark.ca
