What is 3M Paint Protection Film?

3M transparent Paint Protection Film for the front of your vehicle’s hood and the bottom of your doors is excellent protection from stone chips.  Lately we have been getting more and more requests for applications on quarter panels as well..  It protects quarter panels when stones fly up and hit the quarter panel while driving.  If stones penetrate the surface of the paint on a vehicle “rust” forms.  Rust not only occurs where the stone chips penetrate the vehicle coating but it travels underneath and pops its ugly head up in other areas as well.  The cost of refinishing and painting panels is not inexpensive.  3M Paint Protection Film more than pays for itself.

There are two levels of protection - Scotchguard is 3M’s number one brand and the other is VentureShield.  Either must be applied and when ready be removed by a 3M trained professional.  If you are planning on having 3M Paint Protection Film applied ask us for a FREE estimatewww.industrialparkcollision.com

What Kind of Tires Should I Buy?

When asked “what kind of tires should I buy”, you get a variety of different answers from people.  The region you drive in is critical to the choice you make.  The majority of drivers don’t know the difference between all-season, all-weather and winter tires.  In Orillia and area we have to be prepared for the worst of winter conditions.  That could mean snow, sleet, hail, slush, fog, rain, mud and black ice in the winter months.  The best advice is to go to a tire store that specializes in tires and they will educate you on your best options, comparing different temperatures and different surfaces to all of the above conditions will help you make the right decision.  Tell the salesperson your budget, make, model and year of vehicle and whether you do a lot of day or night driving.  A lot of technology goes into designing tires and there is a lot of information for you to learn.  Drive safe this winter!

Safety Tips for Driving in the Fog

Driving in the Fog is scary for all of us.  It requires your full concentration.  During weather situations like heavy fog, your visibility is poor and can negatively impact your driving and personal safety.

Always:

  • Slow down when approaching fog and maintain a slow speed

  • Turn on low beams, fog lights, and warning signals

  • Use your windshield wipers and defroster to increase visibility

  • Roll down windows to hear other vehicles nearby

  • Keep a good distance from the vehicle ahead of you

  • Use your signal earlier if you plan to turn

  • Break early and gently so vehicles behind you have a chance to react to your driving

If really nervous, never hesitate pulling off the road as far to the right that you safely can.   Do not proceed until visibility improves.  Better Safe than Sorry.

How to Travel Safely with your Dog

How to Travel Safely with your Dog

Whenever I see a dog it makes me smile.  I love dogs and what they bring into our lives.  In my business, I realize how dogs are at risk in vehicles.  So often we hear about how someone’s dog being injured in what we would call, “a minor accident”.  No one would ever think to not put their child in a car seat securely and your pet should also be secured safely.  So many times we hear about dogs that slide off the front seat and end up under the dash.  Many are hurt badly and some even die.  It is a heartbreak for the owner.

As a dog lover and owner of a smaller breed, years ago I went and bought our then dog, a “dog car seat”.  Yes, a “Dog Car Seat”!  She was comfortable, could look out the window, was secure and if she wished she could go to sleep.  Our most recent dog now rides in that same  “dog car seat”.  It is not a difficult transition for the dog and you can drive worry free knowing they are safe at all times.    Using their harness (do not use their collar) you secure them in their dog car seat.  Owners of much larger breed dogs can tether their dogs harness to the back seat belt.  Your dog is then able to move back and forth, go to sleep, look out the window and still be safe.  Dog Car Seats are well under $100.00 and they last indefinitely.

There are car back seat covers (at around $19.95), to keep the back seat clean and they are washable. There are a great number of dog safety items on the internet under the name Kurgo and
they are available at Pet Valu in Orillia and other Pet Food Stores throughout North America.

Securing your pet’s safety is affordable and leaves you worry free to focus on safe driving.

Your pets life is worth it!

Hitting the Road

Every one loves to “hit the road” come summer. Weather it is camping, off for a day of swimming and a good picnic or bbq or planning a trip. Below find some helpful tips on how to prepare for your event in order to reduce any unforeseen stress that might arise.

Bring your driver's license, copy of insurance and car ownership documents. If you are crossing a border and you have insurance benefits check your insurance coverage and bring proof of that coverage. If you don’t, call your local broker to find out what it will cost to cover you and your family. Don’t forget “Passports” for everyone. If your furbaby is travelling with you make sure you have the necessary papers and shots from your veterinarian allowing them to cross the border.

Pack an emergency kit: flashlight, bug spray with deet (yes there are cases of people in Ontario and Orillia being bitten by ticks)! If you suspect a tick bite go to your Dr. immediately. Bring along insect spray. The best way to apply it is spray it on your hands and rub it on. Less waste!. Read the instructions thoroughly! Add to your kit some tie downs, battery jumper cables, and a spare tire. It is better to be “Safe than Sorry”..

Before leaving, go and gas up and make sure your tires are properly inflated. The amount of air to be used in each tire is calculated on the driver's side door frame or the driver’s door.

Protect your home. Have someone come in daily, if possible, to check that everything is ok. Check the thermostat and sump pump, if there is one. Leave emergency numbers for you helper to contact, just in case there is an issue. Arrange to suspend newspapers a week before you leave. That way if they forget you can remind them before you leave. If you have recycle bins or garbage arrange for someone to take it out and return the bins to where they are stored. Set timer switches and before leaving set your alarm system.

It sounds like a lot of work but a little preparation goes a long way for a “happy holidays and a safe return”.
