BREAKING NEWS: The City of Orillia Council says "YES" to Uber and Lyft. After more that 1 year of receiving an Uber Petition, The City of Orillia Council voted to allow Uber and Lyft, to operate in Orillia. - One of the Uber Petition concerns expressed by the public was about long wait times for a taxicab, particularly at night from licensed bars and restaurants. It has been suggested that the wait times can be in excess of 1 or 2 hours. An online petition (Orillia Uber Petition) outlining these concerns and requesting Uber operate in Orillia was created approximately a year ago. - What was the holdup? One of the holdups was that The City's by-law requires all new taxicab drivers and TNC Drivers to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) prior to commencement as a driver within the City. Once a driver is registered, only a standard Criminal Record Check (CRC) is required for that driver to operate in subsequent years.
