President’s Message October 2022
Good afternoon Ladies!
I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of fall, though it is a little wet isn’t it? Thinking of those with family and/or friends in eastern Canada.
Soon our second dinner meeting will be upon us. Your executive has already planned out until the end of this year. The following is a bit of a repeat for those who might have missed last month’s bulletin:
As stated on the OBWA Facebook page, our monthly dinner meetings will be held at Kelsey’s on Memorial Ave. And to explain, I know that as a business association this is not the type of venue that we have used in the past, but with room rental, food and associated costs going up, it was agreed that our members might not want to pay $50-55 dollars for their dinner meeting meal each month. That fee would possibly limit some members and guests from attending, and we certainly don’t want that to happen. Kelsey’s has been very good to us, no room rental fee, service is excellent and we do have the video and audio equipment available to our speakers if necessary. I know it can be a little noisy, but I’m sure we’re worse lol. Also, we each have the option of whether we want anything from soup to steak and in between. Sometimes for me it’s a matter of budget and we like to be conscientious of that possibility for others too.
The reason for the entrance fee at the door, $5 for members and $10 for non members and guests, is that along with the membership fees this is the only way we can pay for our month to month operating expenses throughout the year as fundraising is not part of our association being not for-profit, as listed on the Home Page of our website. The mailbox alone is $200 per year. The Gala is a whole separate expense, mostly funded by ticket sales and our generous sponsors..
And on the subject of the 2023 Gala, The BWP Mariposa Inn & Conference Centre has already been booked for June. They have been so accommodating to us and provided such excellent service to us over the past years, that I can't think of a better venue to help us celebrate our extraordinary Women and Young Women of the Year.
When we gather again on Wednesday, October 12th, we will be a few new faces in attendance, as since our last dinner meeting we have had new members sign up.. So exciting!!!
Stay safe, stay healthy. Looking forward to seeing you all. Until we meet again,,,,,,,,,,Soon.
Much respect,
Sharon L. Van Noort, President 2022-2023
