OBWA NOVEMBER MEETING
The Orillia Business Women’s Association (OBWA) meets every second Wednesday of the Month (September thru June) at the Best Western PLUS Mariposa INN and Conference Centre at 400 Memorial Ave. Orillia for networking events, fun and delicious food.
OBWA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE .... All our dinners are special but in November we always remember to “remember” and we celebrate our freedoms in the spirit of Remembrance Day. This month we will have a guest speaker from the National Veteran's Speaker Program.
Our December dinner meeting is our annual Christmas party and as we get closer to the event we will tell you more. It will be An Old Fashioned Christmas theme. We will continue with the Bake Table and would love as many of you as possible to put your aprons on and bake (or buy LOL as we really don't mind who does the baking!) some goodies that other members and guests can purchase. The money raised will help us with the WOTY gala in May 2020. I can tell you that this December dinner meeting is always FUN! It is also a great time to bring a friend or two for a relaxing and enjoyable night out. I know most women, me included, are happy to have a night that does not involve any cooking or cleanup! We might even have our favourite DJ, Rob Lutes from DJ2theMax entertain us with some great dance tunes.
Our January dinner meeting is going to be replaced with our 3rd Annual Business Showcase where you will be able to have your own table at a minimal charge of $10 (provided, of course, by the Best Western PLUS) to display your products/services. The objective of this is to give members a better sense of who you are and what you have to offer AND to help generate business for everyone. If you have products to sell, this is a perfect meeting for you. We will keep you posted on the details in the upcoming weeks. The culinary staff will provide us with refreshments (TBD). If you are interested in having a table at this event please let us know. The showcase was very well received last year and we had at least 23 members participate.
Just a reminder that paid members are more than welcome to and encouraged to share their businesses, products, events, etc. on the OBWA facebook group at any time. Also, there are many times when the executive posts news about what is happening with the group on facebook and so you should take the time to peek in regularly to keep up to date. We encourage all of you, whenever you can, to bring guests to the dinner meetings and make this part of your commitment to the group. The more we grow the better for everyone. And always remember ALL women are welcome whether they have a business or not. We all bring something useful and beneficial to the group. We are here to offer support to any and all women. Even if you know someone who just needs that one night out to de-stress we will welcome them with open arms. So, with all that being said, exciting things are continuing to happen!
Remember to get your dinner reservation in before the cut-off date of November 8 and I will see you November 13.
In closing here are some powerful words from Padre Dennis O’Brien, U.S. Marine Corps, “It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.”
Yours in friendship and business,
Shelle Hossack
As a paid member please don't forget to connect with the other members on the facebook page and continue to share what you are up to or what your needs, wants, and successes are. This is a great way to connect with the other women.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our November meeting. This month's speaker is Lieutenant-Colonel Charleen Coulbeck. She will be speaking about her career with the Canadian Armed Forces.
As an Executive Committee we would like to propose the following changes to the OBWA Bylaw. Please take a moment to read the proposal presented below. We will be putting forth a vote at the November meeting.
