FEBRUARY 2019 - OBWA NETWORKING AND DINNER MEETING
The Orillia Business Women’s Association (OBWA) meets every second Wednesday of the Month (September thru June) at the Best Western Mariposa INN and Conference Centre at 400 Memorial Ave. Orillia for networking events, fun and delicious food.
OBWA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Love is in the air! It is hard to believe we are already in the second month of 2019, February the month of Love. What better place to spend the night before Valentine’s Day than with some of your women friends. No dinner to cook and no dishes to do, a little wine or a cocktail, and lots of laughs. At this February meeting our guest speaker Tanya Clark, Couchiching Conservancy, who is a self-confessed tree hugger will share a love story which fits in with the theme of the month. We will of course have fun chatting and networking, we will be enjoying a delicious dinner and our Business of the Month owner, Rhoni Hazlewood from Wealth for Dummies will explain to us how to earn extra income. Who couldn’t benefit from that? We are seeing many businesses showcasing what is new in their upcoming “season” as they prepare to go full steam ahead after a bit of a break. We encourage you to continue to use the OBWA Facebook group to share about you and your business, any events or special occasions, or you can just share some personal goals, needs or milestones. Sharing and/or liking posts is definitely encouraged as this is a big part of our networking and it allows us to show support for one another. Don’t forget to read the entire February bulletin so you know what to expect and how you might be able to help out at this meeting. We want to remind you that we have already started to make plans for our biggest event of the year, the Woman of the Year and the Young Woman of the Year Gala and we are looking for volunteers to help. This is a very empowering event for the nominees and for ALL the women involved. With the media coverage that is prevalent lately about important women’s issues, this event will be even more exciting. In closing, I look forward to seeing you on February 13 and I want to leave you with this quote by Sheryl Sandberg, “We need women at all levels, including the top, to change the dynamic, reshape the conversation, to make sure women’s voices are heard and heeded, not overlooked and ignored.” Do this in love.
Yours in friendship and business,
Shelle Hossack
OBWA PRESIDENT
We are pleased to announce February’s guest speaker is:
Topic: What the heck is a land trust?
Did you know we have a 25 year old land trust working in our region to
ensure some of the beautiful forests, wetlands and alvars are here forever?
The Couchiching Conservancy is one of many land trusts working in Ontario to
protect vital habitat and irreplaceable wilderness for future generations.
So how does a land trust work?
Tanya will walk you through the ins and outs of land trust life,
and since we are close to Valentine's Day, will share a land trust love story.
Tanya Clark describes herself as a tree hugger. Growing up in the Orillia area,
she has a deep appreciation, fascination and love for nature.
As the Development Coordinator at The Couchiching Conservancy,
a non-profit land trust dedicated to protecting nature,
Tanya works to ensure some of the beautiful forests, wetlands and alvars will be here in the future.
She graduated with honours from the Bachelor of Business Administration program at
Lakehead in Orillia and
recently completed the Fundraising and Resource Development graduate program
at Georgian College.
Tanya is an active member of the Orillia Naturalists Club and in her free time,
she can likely be found hiking nearby trails with her dog Charlie.
