Initial Foot Care Assessment & Treatment

Description

Initial Foot Care Assessment and Treatment – Think Feet Family Foot Clinic, in Orillia, is always welcoming new patients. A first appointment includes both an initial assessment and treatment with a Chiropodist. Contact us for further information or to schedule an appointment.

As a new patient to Think Feet Family Foot Clinic, your first appointment will include both an initial assessment and treatment. To begin, the  Chiropodist will converse with you regarding your medical history, current medications, and foot concerns, in order to complete our standardized form. This information is completely confidential and is required to develop the best treatment plan to improve your foot health. At this appointment, your feet will be examined to evaluate their structure, skin circulation, and nail condition. You may also be asked to stand and/or walk for observation of your balance, weight-bearing positioning, and/or body alignment. At Think Feet, we like for you to be directly involved with your treatment and encourage you to ask questions. Discussions surrounding changes to your feet or any conditions will occur. Furthermore, we strive to individualize each treatment plan to help all of our patients reach their personal foot care goals.

Please note:

  • We ask that you do not wear nail polish for your assessment. This limits our ability to examine nail plates and nail beds.
  •  We request an updated list of your current medications to increase understanding of your general health and treatment limitations.
  • A consent form, regarding sharing health information with our clinic, must be read and signed. If applicable, an email communication consent form can also be signed. We are able to contact you  via email, if you wish.
  • Think Feet Family Foot Clinic encourages, when needed, family involvement with foot care. We will educate family members on how best to assist. If a patient requires a Power of Attorney, as they are unable to make informed decisions independently, we must have the supporting documentation before foot care can be initiated. This way, we ensure effective communication with all parties.
At the end of your initial assessment and treatment, you will be provided with: educational materials, as required; a treatment plan, which may involve scheduling return appointments; foot care and foot wear advice; recommendations for other beneficial treatment options with other health care professionals; and, as needed, an informative consultation for your Doctor in order to update your health team about your foot health.

For new patients visiting Think Feet regarding wounds or foot ulcers:
  • Your Chiropodist may feel that a photograph of your foot wound or ulcer will improve their documentation and assist in evaluating treatment effectiveness.
  • Wound or ulcer measurements are taken every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the treatment plan.
  • Care with nurses to assist with care may be requested to help with wound management in between Chiropody treatments. In this case, your consent is required to share your medical information.
PAYMENT
At Think Feet -Family Foot Clinic, we accept all payment forms, including cash, cheque, Interac Debit, Visa, and MasterCard. At this time, we do not take American Express or E transfers. We also provide services to those with Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) cards.
Please note that Think Feet, as a private clinic, is not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
