About Us

Our family farm was established in 1858 and has produced pork ever since. When I was growing up my favorite day of the year was our summer Pig Roast Party. We also supplied a lot of other people with a “Guest Of Honour” for their parties. My family has a seasonal restaurant, which is closed during the summer months. After years of talking about it, Terri-Lynn and I decided to give “Party Pigs Inc.” a try.

BBQ PIG PACKAGE

We are the largest Do-it-Yourself Pig Roasting business in Canada. Our DIY package includes everything you will need for an easy successful feast. Honestly, roasting one of our pigs couldn’t be any easier. Our BBQ’s work just like a large oven with zero turnings needed. On pick up day, we will give you a walkthrough demonstration including a take-home instruction sheet.

It only takes 4 hours to roast our small pig and our large pigs take around 9 hours.

BBQ and Maple Charcoal comes with every package.

MAPLE SYRUP BUSH

Welcome to Shaws Maple Syrup Bush.

We have been tapping our forest every year since 1904, and many of those original trees are still producing our liquid gold today. Each year starting February 16 thru April 22, the tradition continues with families visiting us for their annual spring celebration. Our warm Pancake House serves up tasty treats to fuel a walk through the bush with 4500 trees all connected with tubing to collect around 160 000 liters of watery maple sap each season. On weekends we have horse-drawn wagon rides through our trails which recreated the way we collected our sap until the late 1960s. If the weather’s been “just right” you will be able to watch and smell the sweet sap boil away through the evaporator.

The wagon rides and sap evaporation are weather dependent, so please view the chart on the right, or call 705 325 4347 for updates to see when they are happening.

MAPLE SYRUP

Sometime during February or March, the sap begins to flow. This usually occurs when we have a warm day of +3 degrees c, and then a frosty night of below -3 degrees c. The change in the temperature creates sap flow in the tree. We gather sap from our 4500 trees and boil it into maple syrup. It takes approximately 40 gallons of maple sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup. During Maple Season you are welcome to come out and see where we make this happen. If you are lucky enough to be here on a day when we are boiling, you will love the rich smell of maple sap steam in the air.

Please call 705-325-4347 from Mid-February to Mid-April between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and ask about the POSSIBILITY that we will be boiling that day.
Our Maple Syrup is available all year round at these local locations.

WAGON RIDES

A team of Percheron horses will take you through our maple wonderland. We have a one-mile loop meandering through the middle of our network of tubing that connects our 4500 trees. The large mature trees give shelter from the wind and create a perfect atmosphere for fun. Rides are available on weekends during our season, usually around lunch-time.

Please call 705-325-4347 to find out when the team is pulling.

The cost is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 12.

The ride takes around 15 minutes.
