Decks Painting / Staining

Description

A well maintained wooden deck will last many years if maintained properly.
It needs to be stained or painted every few years or it will quickly rot and look awful.
Painting or staining a deck is not difficult, but doing the job properly can be time-consuming and repetitive.
It is all worth in the end, as a proper paint job will not only give your deck a face-lift but also protect it from the elements.

There are specific steps we follow as we prepare the deck for painting.
  • We went the wood with a slow flowing hose to open up the pores of the wood. It is not advised to use high pressure as it can damage or soften the wood.
  • Next comes the cleaning agent. An All Purpose Deck Wash is what we recommend as it is light on the wood and still gets the job done. You want to avid any harsh products as they are not beneficial for the aging process of the wood and can effect the integrity of the wood as well.
  • We apply the cleaning agent with a cloth or sponge to the damp wood in small sections at a time.
  • Next, we use a semi-hard bristled bathroom brush and begin scrubbing the deck.
  • As the gunk and dirt begins to accumulate on the deck we rinse it off with water and keep scrubbing. This is a slow process which is repeated many times over.
  • The deck is scrubbed in small sections at a time so the wood and the cleaning product does not dry up.
  • Once all the scrubbing is done the deck is well rinsed and allowed to dry.
  • Now the surface is well prepared for the painting or staining to follow.
  • The deck is painted with two coats of high quality paint or stain from either Benjamin Moore or         Sherwin Williams
