For many families, having a parent or older sibling around when a child comes home from school just isn't possible.  Whether or not to leave a child home alone is a major dilemma for parents.   Children at home alone should be able to prevent and cope with emergencies.  They need to be mature enough to care not only for themselves, but often for younger siblings.  Only the adults closest to the child know if he/she is ready to spend some time alone at home.         

This program is designed as a guide for the parents and the children, to both help them get ready to stay at home alone, and to decide when they have the maturity and knowledge to stay at home alone. The children in this program should be at least 9 years old.
