Paige Hannan - 2021 Young Woman of the Year
Call
Description
From the start of her academic career at Orillia Secondary School, Paige Hannan has made the Honour Roll every semester and has been a very active member and positive role model within the community. Elected as a member of the Student Council every year, including as Co-Prime Minister, Paige created a positive student experience by hosting virtual events during this turbulent year of the Pandemic. Paige founded the Student Wellness Committee during this time to offer a student perspective on how to best serve the mental health needs of her peers as many students struggled with online learning. She also sat on the Women in Politics Council to discuss issues of barriers to women and set an inspiring example by sharing her experience with an audience of her peers. She volunteered with the Students of Hope to raise money to sponsor a youth room at the new Lighthouse Community Services Hub in Orillia. And her work with Veteran’s Affairs includes attending the 75th anniversary of D-Day with the personal effects of a soldier from Orillia; participating in a postcard writing campaign for Vets during Covid; attending the planting of a Vimy Oak in Orillia; attending and speaking at a Take a Vet to dinner event as well as leading a Remembrance Day exhibit at OSS.
Her future goals at McMaster University are to major in Justice, Political Science, and Law to pursue Criminal Justice Reform. No doubt she will succeed as Paige is described as passionate, amazing and unstoppable.
