MAT ANNOUNCES NEW SEASON Mariposa Arts Theatre Foundation (MAT) is thrilled to announce its 2017-2018. season! In what will be our 47th year of bringing quality live community theatre to Orillia, we are delighted to be offering one of our most exciting seasons yet. We begin our new season with Chicago, followed by All My Sons and Rope’s End. On a First Name Basis, our final selection, completes a season to remember. We are sticking to what we are all about: plays that entertain, challenge, and delight, while giving us something to think about. Chicago - Nov 9 – 19, 2017 By Bob Fosse, Fred Ebb The winner of six Tony Awards, CHICAGO has everything that makes a Broadway musical great: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz; and one show-stopping song after another. Murderesses Velma Kelly and Roxie Hat find themselves on death row together and fight for fame that will keep them from the gallows in 1920’s Chicago. CHICAGO will be a co-production with the Orillia Opera House. Director: Wayne Noble Musical Director: Christina Bosco All My Sons - Feb 8 – 18, 2018 By Arthur Miller Based on a true story, the play focuses on the tale of a businessman who once narrowly avoided financial ruin by shipping cracked machine parts to the military during the war. He blames his business partner, who goes to jail, while he continues on to build an empire. Eventually, his crime comes back to haunt him. Written in 1947, it features ideas on social responsibility that remain current and even more important today. Director: Iian Moggach Rope’s End – April 5 – 15, 2018 By Douglas Bowie Toby Boone sits alone in a drab room. He’s reached the end of his rope. The possibility of suicide looms in the air. But he happens across a photo – the love of his life. Maybe she can change things – rescue him. There’s only one problem. He last saw her at summer camp when they were thirteen, thirty-one years ago. What if she doesn’t remember him? Or worse yet, what if she does! A bittersweet comedy about the choices we make in life, Rope’s End leads us through twists and turns, and ends up in a surprising and memorable place. Director: TBD On a First Name Basis – May 25 - 27 – June 1 - 3, 2018 By Norm Foster This delightful plays tells the story of a very successful, but cantankerous, novelist who suddenly discovers that he knows nothing about his maid of 28 years while she knows absolutely everything about him. He makes it his mission to learn all he can about her in a most engaging conversation. Surprising, funny, and extremely moving, this is a love story, a social commentary and a mystery wrapped in witty dialogue and vivid imagery. Director: TBD

After the February 11th performance of "Death and the Maiden", the cast and crew stayed behind for the Q&A session with audience. There were a lot of great questions and discussion regarding the outcome of the play, costume selection, staging and 'what really happened'! Great show! Great cast! Congratulations! There are still 5 more performances. There is a matinee today, and then Thursday to Sunday next week. Get your tickets at www.OrilliaOperaHouse.ca www.MariposaArtsTheatre.com
